Master director Quentin Tarantino (59) has been asserting for some time that he wants to end his long and successful career after ten films or at the age of 60. Various US trade journals such as “The Hollywood Reporter” are now unanimously reporting that Tarantino is said to have completed the screenplay for his tenth and final film. It will have the working title The Movie Critic, will be set in Los Angeles in the late 1970s and revolve around a female protagonist.
Currently, Tarantino would offer his finished screenplay to various studios, which can read it under high security precautions. According to the Hollywood Reporter, filming is scheduled to start in the fall. Therefore, “The Movie Critic” will probably be released in cinemas at the end of next year at the earliest. There is currently no information about the cast.
The “Hollywood Reporter” also speculates that Tarantino’s last film could be about the legendary US journalist Pauline Kael (1919-2001). The enormously influential film critic worked as a consultant for the Hollywood studio Paramount in the late 1970s. But Kael’s transition into actual film production was short-lived and she quickly returned to New Yorker magazine, where she wrote critically acclaimed reviews until her retirement in 1991.
Tarantino has repeatedly mentioned for years that after ten films or at the age of 60 he wants to give up his career. The two-time Oscar winner will celebrate his 60th birthday later this month. However, the man behind cult films like “Pulp Fiction” (1994) or “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” (2019) still leaves a loophole. According to his own statement, he would still be available to direct a mini-series even after his tenth feature film.
