Queen Mathilde (50) and Crown Princess Elisabeth (21) are currently on a state visit to Egypt. The Belgian mother-daughter team already arrived on Tuesday (March 14). Visiting Tutankhamen’s tomb is a special highlight on Wednesday.
The trip of the two royals is part of the royal family’s historical interest in ancient Egypt and at the same time a homage to Queen Elizabeth (1876-1965), according to the official statement from the Belgian royal family. Already 100 years ago Queen Elisabeth visited after the discovery of the tomb.
Queen Mathilde and Crown Princess Elisabeth took the 100th anniversary of Queen Elisabeth’s state visit as an opportunity for a sweet review. The Belgian royal family published a photo of the two women on the balcony of a hotel on Instagram.
Queen Mathilde wears a long beige dress with matching loafers in the snapshot. Her daughter chose a khaki jumpsuit and trainers. Another picture shows the 21-year-old standing alone in the same place as Queen Elizabeth in a black and white picture 100 years ago. The royal family writes: “Then as now: A hundred years ago, Queen Elizabeth lived in the same hotel as Queen and Princess Elizabeth today.”
In Cairo they have already taken part in the opening of an exhibition on Queen Elizabeth and Belgian Egyptology at the Baron Empain Palace. The palace shared pictures of the event. For the official occasion, the Belgian queen wore a white lace dress with beige pumps. Crown Princess Elisabeth also opted for nude high heels. She combined it with pink trousers and a matching blouse with batwing sleeves.
