The Scottish National Archives have released Queen Elizabeth II’s (1926-2022) death certificate three weeks after her death. The cause of death of the monarch was announced in it. Accordingly, she died of old age on September 8 at 3:10 p.m. local time. Her death was announced to the public about three hours later.
The same cause of death was also listed on the death certificate of her husband Prince Philip (1921-2021), who died on April 9, 2021. According to Princess Anne’s (72) death certificate, the authorities were informed of the Queen’s death. Shortly after the announcement by Buckingham Palace on September 8, she said it was “an honor and a privilege to accompany her on her final journey”. Anne was “lucky” to have been with her mother in her last 24 hours.
The Queen’s state funeral took place in London on September 19. The first image of her tombstone was released by the palace on September 24. The tomb is in the King George VI Memorial Chapel and was decorated with numerous wreaths and bouquets. Visiting the Queen’s final resting place has been open since September 29.
