Apparently not only are kangaroos cute, strong and capable of very large jumps, they also seem to be quite smart and agile. A small opening in the fence of a private garden was enough for a kangaroo in Austria to get away. As Austrian media reports, “Captain” has been on the run for a week. The wallaby was discovered from time to time – short videos were also made when it appeared – but it could not be caught.

It started its tour in the area around the village of Alberndorf in the Pulkautal in the Lower Austrian district of Hollabrunn and was then sighted in the so-called northern Weinviertel. “Captain” also showed up in a supermarket parking lot in neighboring Haugsdorf before he disappeared again in the direction of the local cemetery, as documented by a video published on YouTube by the Jetzelsdorf fire department responsible.

Its owner, a local private individual, gave the regional studio of the ORF television station some tips on how to behave for people who happen to meet “Captain” or even want to help catch him: “We’re already hot on his heels […] It’s quick […] I also ask that you do not approach it when you see it, otherwise it will run away again.”

According to the ORF, the kangaroo is trusting towards its owner and eats out of his hand, for example, but is shy towards other people. Encounters with strangers would trigger stress, which also makes it difficult to catch: “Please inform us if you see something, it’s trusting for us, we can then catch it with a box,” said the owner in an interview with the “heute.at” portal.

Meanwhile, “Captain’s” popularity seems to be on the rise. The excitement about the animal is already very great, unknown people would come to the place to look for it, the owner said in an interview with ORF.
