Prince Harry (38) surprised the guests at a conference in San Francisco with an appearance. The Duke of Sussex appeared to be speaking at the Masters of Scale summit about mental health and his work for BetterUp, a company that provides corporate mental health coaching services, among other things. “I have a coach. I wish I had two,” Harry told the audience, according to a tweet shared by the Financial Times’ Dave Lee. Photos from the event show the royal on stage with BetterUp co-founder Alexi Robichaux and entrepreneur Reid Hoffman. Speaking about the importance of coaching for his own mental health, Harry said it was “life-changing.”
“Prince Harry says growing up in the royal family and then spending ten years in the military, he never heard the words ‘therapy’ or ‘coaching’. Then the blinders came off and his life changed,” wrote Doron Weber, vice president of the nonprofit Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, on Twitter.
Several attendees took to social media after the event to credit Prince Harry’s contributions. Among other things, he has been called an “outstanding advocate for mental health”. “Prince Harry is out there showing us all how to use power, wealth and status for good. A truly impressive and inspiring person,” wrote one user, according to media reports. Elsewhere it was said about the appearance: “Prince Harry does his homework and speaks from the heart and not according to a script, his mother would be so proud!”
In 2020, Prince Harry and his wife Duchess Meghan (41) resigned as high-ranking royals and moved to Meghan’s native California. In 2021, the prince had already talked about his own therapy experience with Oprah Winfrey (68) in the Apple TV documentary “The Me You Can’t See” – to which Meghan had moved him. “It was meeting and being with Meghan. I knew that if I didn’t go into therapy and fix myself, I was going to lose this woman who I could see myself spending the rest of my life with,” he said .
