Prince Harry (38) is said to have not been first informed by his family about the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). Instead, he first heard about it from the press. According to a media report, the Royal writes this in his autobiography “Spare” (German title: “Reserve”), which will be published on January 10th.
Harry was on a plane when he found out about it, reports “Sky News”, which has a copy of the biography that has already been sold in Spain for a short time – apparently accidentally. Shortly before landing, he received a message from his wife, Duchess Meghan (41), on his smartphone, as Harry writes. “Call me as soon as you read this,” it said.
“I checked the BBC website,” Harry continues to report in “Spare”. “My grandmother had died. My father was the king. I put on a black tie and got off the plane in a heavy drizzle.” As early as the end of September 2022, anonymous sources from the “Page Six” palace said that Harry first found out about the Queen’s death on the Internet.
The Queen died at Balmoral Castle in early September. King Charles III (74), Harry’s father, later told him on the phone, according to the “Sky News” report, that Meghan should not come to Scotland. “He told me I was welcome at Balmoral, but… without her,” the book says. Charles wanted to explain his reasons, but they didn’t make sense to Harry.
Harry also took it as “disrespectful” and therefore replied that his father should not talk about Meghan like that. Charles then said he just didn’t want too many people to come. None of the wives should come, “he told me not even Kate [editor’s note: Princess Kate, the wife of Harry’s brother Prince William], so Meg shouldn’t either”.
Even before the release of “Spare”, Harry will be seen in several TV interviews and will talk about his autobiography and his family, among other things. Three interviews have been announced for January 8th and 9th, one on the British channel ITV 1, the other two for the programs “60 Minutes” and “Good Morning America” on the US networks CBS and ABC.
