Prince Christian of Denmark celebrated his 18th birthday at the weekend. Among other things, as part of the celebrations, “an official photo was taken in the Velvet Chamber on October 15th” showing the “young heirs to the throne”.
The palace published the remarkable image on its homepage. It shows the birthday girl between Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway (19) and Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands (19). Standing next to them are Princess Estelle of Sweden (11) and Crown Princess Elisabeth of Belgium (21). The future king and four future queens smile into the camera in their festive evening gowns.
In addition to the common and predetermined fate that unites these five young people, there is also a small difference: While the parents of Catharina-Amalia and Elisabeth are already king and queen, the parents of Christian, Estelle and Ingrid Alexandra are still heir to the throne.
As can be seen, among other things, from the social media accounts of the Danish royal family, the now adult prince was cheered by the people alone on the balcony for the first time. With this date, the official celebrations for Prince Christian’s 18th birthday began on Sunday at 12 p.m.
The balcony appearance for this special birthday is a tradition in Denmark: The court had previously published a video with archive footage that shows Christian’s father, Crown Prince Frederik (55), at the same event in 1986, as well as today’s Queen Margrethe II of Denmark ( 83) in 1958. The two then 18-year-olds also completed the traditional event with a friendly wave.
