A street in Paris has been named after British pop icon David Bowie, who died eight years ago. The street in the 13th arrondissement was renamed on Monday to mark the pop star’s 77th birthday. As the city of Paris announced, Rue David Bowie is opposite the concert hall where the pop star last performed in October 2003 on his last world tour. Bowie is considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.
Since his first appearances in Paris in the winter of 1966, the singer’s special connection to the French capital has not been broken. During his numerous concerts in Paris, Bowie always visited the city’s museums. According to the city, Bowie also proposed to his future wife Iman in 1990 on a boat on the Seine.
