Tennis player Angelique Kerber has become the mother of a daughter. The three-time Grand Slam tournament winner announced this on Instagram on Tuesday. “Welcome to our family Liana. Having you with us is the most beautiful and overwhelming feeling we could have ever imagined,” the 35-year-old wrote in a message alongside a black-and-white image of one Baby hand in adult hands can be seen.
In addition, Kerber posted the obvious date of birth “02/25/2023” as well as a red heart, a baby bottle and a teething ring as emojis. The post was followed by numerous congratulations, including from the WTA, the Wimbledon organizers, her former Danish rival Caroline Wozniacki and German player Sabine Lisicki.
Kerber made the upcoming birth of her first child public last August. Because of the pregnancy, she missed the US Open last year and the Australian Open earlier this year.
The best German tennis player since Steffi Graf does not yet have a specific date for a return to the tennis circus. “It’s clear to me that I’ll only return to the tour when I’m fit and feel ready. That’s why I don’t put myself under pressure by defining a date,” Kerber told the German Press Agency at the end of the year said. But it is clear “that I want to get back to work as soon as possible”.
