Alexandra Starr earns her money by performing with bands that play events and weddings. The California singer-songwriter has had limited success with her own music — and gigs like this help pay her rent at the end of the month. Once she was supposed to step in as a substitute singer because of a failure in a cover band. This led to a fatal error: the band she was supposed to sing with was booked for a wedding – of all things for the wedding of the man who had cheated on her shortly before. The ex had no idea who was being hired, but she knew what was about to happen.
On TikTok, she revealed that she noticed her ex-lover first. He was also hard to miss when he hit the dance floor with his new flame. Starr wanted revenge. Because the separation came when she found out after five years that she had been cheated on. In addition, there was probably the shock that their relationship had not taken the “next step” in five years. In a song about the experience, she wrote, “We were together for five years, he didn’t waste any time moving on. So I’m not sorry.”
Apparently, after a few months, he had asked the new girl to say yes. In her song, Starr writes bitterly of the moment: “Now comes the bride, dressed all in white, I turned around, his eyes met mine. I almost cried, because this day should be mine.”
At the wedding, she intoned a cover of “Before He Cheats.” In the cult 2005 song, Carrie Underwood sings about her revenge when her husband hits on a “White Trash Version” by Shania Twain at a bar with “slow dancing” and “sticky drinks.” Outside the bar, the singer is seething with anger.
I dug my key into the side of his pretty souped-up SUV.
I carved my name into his leather seats.
I hit both headlights with a Louisville bat.
I cut a hole in all four tires.
Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats.
Not exactly a suitable song for a wedding. Both the bride and groom were stunned when Starr turned around and recognized the singer. A member of the band tried to drag her away, but Starr grabbed a glass and threw the water on the groom. In the lyrics, she only regrets that it wasn’t wine. Then she pushed him out of the way and stormed off the stage.
She later said a “bigger” person than she was probably wouldn’t have gone to the wedding. But she is not such an upright character, but resentful and saw the performance as a “gift from the gods”. “I wasn’t paid for the night and in case you were wondering, I was fired and I would do it all again.”
