Duchess Meghan celebrated this year’s International Women’s Day on March 8th by taking part in a discussion panel at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. There she sat on stage with actress Brooke Shields and journalist Katie Couric to talk about the topic of “Breaking Barriers and Challenging Stereotypes.” In the audience: her husband Prince Harry, who listened carefully to her words.
In her post, the former series actress spoke, among other things, about her experiences with social media, which she currently keeps a long distance from for good reason. She revealed that she was exposed to the most blatant online hate during her pregnancy with her children Archie and Lilibet.
As People magazine reports, she said: “I’m staying away from it at the moment to feel comfortable, but most of the bullying and abuse I’ve experienced on social media and online has happened when I was pregnant with Archie and Lili, and with a newborn, with each of them.” For a long time she racked her brains about why people could be so hateful: “Why do you do something like that when you’re pregnant or as a mother at such a tender and sacred time?”
Her unpleasant experiences ultimately led her to stay away from social media as much as possible and not to let anything private become public through these channels. In the end, her natural “mammal instinct” led her to “do everything she could to protect the child and therefore herself.”
