Sports presenter Monica Lierhaus is looking forward to her comeback on free TV on RTL with great anticipation. In an interview on Thursday evening on RTL on the sidelines of the Europa League game between Leverkusen and Saint Gilloise, she revealed what viewers can expect from her in the coming weeks.

She’s doing “very well,” said the 52-year-old. “I really like being in stadiums.” It “couldn’t be better”.

In an RTL interview, she revealed about her TV plans that she would be filming portraits of participants at the Special Olympics. She has already met a football team from Berlin for this. “I was so taken by how euphoric and grandiose they were.”

The Special Olympics World Games will take place in Berlin from June 17 to 25, 2023, for the first time in Germany. Athletes with mental and multiple disabilities compete at the sporting event. RTL is the media partner of the inclusive sports event.

Lierhaus will also meet people for a theme week on the subject of inclusion and talk to them about how they are coping with their disability. “A very moving subject,” she said.

“In addition to the planned TV sports activities, Monica Lierhaus is permanently involved as an inclusion consultant for the company RTL Germany and is also involved in internal and external topics and formats as part of a ‘Diversity Week’ planned for the summer on the topic of inclusion,” it said in an RTL press release.

In June, Lierhaus will report on a DFB international match together with her colleague Florian König (55). “Honestly, I can hardly describe it. I’m really looking forward to it,” said Lierhaus.

On Tuesday, the RTL broadcaster officially announced Lierhaus’ TV comeback. At the Cologne broadcaster, she is also supposed to moderate the sport on RTL Aktuell and report on other live sporting events. The presenter is also to accompany everyday heroes for the show “Punkt 12”.

“I’m just happy to be back!” Said Monica Lierhaus about her comeback.

In 2009, the presenter was diagnosed with an aneurysm. Complications arose during removal. As a result, Lierhaus had to be placed in an induced coma. In rehab, she had to learn to swallow, eat, and move again. In the time that followed, she was rarely seen on TV.

In the past few years, Lierhaus had mainly worked for the pay-TV channel Sky. The Hamburg native had previously moderated the “Sportschau” on ARD.
