Nicole Kidman (56) and Keith Urban (56) appeared on the red carpet for the first time with their teenage daughters Sunday (15) and Faith (13). The AFI Life Achievement Awards Gala on Saturday (April 27) in Hollywood was a very special event for the actress. Because she was able to accept the American Film Institute’s award for her life’s work and also met her “Big Little Lies” colleagues again.
The actress and her family dressed up for the evening. Kidman dazzled in a custom Balenciaga bodycon dress embroidered with gold sequins. Her husband wore a black suit with black silk lapels, a white shirt, a black tie and black boots. They were accompanied for the first time by their daughters and other family members. Sunday appeared in a floral strapless dress, while her little sister Faith wore a striking red dress.
During her acceptance speech, Nicole Kidman paid tribute to her family: “And then there’s the love of my life and the loves of my life. My daughters have never been on a red carpet with me in public, tonight was their first night.” The 56-year-old explained that her mother was missing, but she hoped she could watch the event via livestream. She also thought of her late father and was happy about “all my nieces and nephews.”
The AFI Life Achievement Award has been presented by the American Film Institute since 1973 to an “individual whose career in the film industry has contributed significantly to the enrichment of American culture,” according to the organization’s website. Kidman had already been looking forward to being able to celebrate the evening with friends, family members and colleagues. This also included her “Big Little Lies” co-stars Reese Witherspoon (48) and Meryl Streep (74). The trio celebrated a reunion five years after the second season was broadcast. Streep presented Kidman with the lifetime achievement award, and Witherspoon gave a speech. Zac Efron (36), Naomi Watts (55) and Keith Urban also spoke in honor of the actress.
On her Instagram page, Kidman said she was “deeply moved by all the support I’ve seen and heard around the world.” She thanked “for including me in this illustrious group of honorees – now let’s have fun!”.
