During a raid, a man runs into Thorsten Falke’s (Wotan Wilke Möhring) car. He calls the inspector on his cell phone that same evening and reminds him of a promise made more than 20 years ago. Falke has no idea who the man is. But when he is found dead shortly afterwards, he begins to investigate – and comes across a connection that goes far back into his own past.
Well-intentioned is rarely good. All too often, the “crime scene” conveys a socially relevant topic, as if the ARD had to live up to its educational mission in this very slot. This episode simply tells a coherent criminal case that is exciting until the end – and does everything right. The film, written by Marija Erceg, is supported by a fantastic acting ensemble around Hanno Kofler and Janina Elkin.
“Tatort” is a crime thriller and not a feel-good movie. But the ending of “What Remains” could disturb some viewers. Actually not a film to start the new year in a lively and optimistic manner.
Julia Grosz has received an offer from the Federal Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden. But she would actually like to stay in Hamburg – she’s just waiting for a sign from Thorsten Falke. By the time it comes, it is already too late.
