Musician Herbert Grönemeyer has described the work on his latest studio album as playful. “When it comes to writing, I don’t know: if something comes up, nothing happens,” said the 66-year-old in Berlin during the presentation of his new album “Das ist los”.

“I’m relatively safe in music. Once I’m in, I’m in. It has to be fun. It has to be absurd. It has to be fun,” said Grönemeyer. “Then we’ll play around like rascals on the soccer field.”

Everything that comes up with ideas is wasted, the singer described the process. At the same time he emphasized: “That means not everything stays on the record!” The 13-song album is out this Friday (March 24).

Grönemeyer also described his way of working. “I work completely chaotically, to the chagrin of all the people who always have to work with me,” said the musician. “But fortunately I’m surrounded by a wonderful team that is very structured.”
