With almost parental pride, people in Germany are currently looking at Kim Petras’ career: Finally, not only is someone with German roots actually successful in the USA, but also this typical L.A. glamour! With “Feed The Beast” the native of Cologne is now presenting her official debut album – after three mixtapes, an EP and an album that was stopped because of songs previously leaked on the internet.

It’s probably a massive relief for Petras to finally be able to present her first record on a major label. To be clear, this is pop music. Anyone who values hand-made guitar playing or the philosophical depth of the lyrics will not be served. Instead, the 30-year-old delivers juicy electronic beats, candy melodies and songs about love, sex and her favorite body parts. Sometimes with a wink (“Sex Talk”), but never parodically.

After the success of her Grammy-winning duet “Unholy” with Sam Smith (also included on the album as the closing track), one might have guessed that Petras would focus more on provocation and camp aesthetics in the future, but that definitely didn’t happen. Rather, she is based on colleagues like Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry or Dua Lipa.

Songs like “Revelations” or “King Of Hearts” even bring a little 80s flair, sound like the best kind of summer nights and are perfect for speeding through the night with friends in a packed car to the next party. Guests on the album include British pop star Sam Smith, rapper Nicki Minaj (“Alone”) and electronic princess Banks (“Bait”).
