The cult crime series “Monk” will soon be continued as a film. Leading actor Tony Shalhoub (69) returns to what is probably his most famous role for the streaming project entitled “Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie”. The 69-year-old once again embodies police adviser Adrian Monk, who is plagued by numerous phobias and obsessive-compulsive disorders, as reported by “Variety”.
According to the official storyline, Monk will tackle “a very personal case” involving his “beloved stepdaughter Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding.” The film would have “the heart and humor of the original series” and “contemporary relevance,” said Michael Sluchan of Peacock’s parent company, NBCUniversal.
In addition to “Monk” leading actor Shalhoub, Ted Levine (65) will also return as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer, Traylor Howard (56) as Monk’s second assistant Natalie Teeger, Jason Gray-Stanford (52) as Lieutenant Randy Disher, Melora Hardin (55) as Monks deceased wife Trudy Monk and Héctor Elizondo (86) as Monk’s second psychiatrist Dr. Neven Bell back.
The screenplay for “Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie” comes from series creator Andy Breckman (68), who also serves as an executive producer on the film project. Randy Zisk, who directed 34 episodes of the original series, will direct. Originally broadcast on USA Network, Monk ran for 125 episodes between 2002 and 2009. Series star Shalhoub has won three Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
