The cinema year 2022 is coming to an end, “Avatar: The Way of Water” has once again spilled a lot of fresh blockbuster feeling onto the screen – die-hard film fans are already wondering what the next twelve months have in store for them. The answer: A lot, even outside of the ubiquitous Marvel cosmos.

With “The Banshees Of Inisherin” a congenial trio returns on January 5th. Directed by Martin McDonagh (52), Colin Farrell (46) and Brendan Gleeson (67) had already delivered a weird masterpiece in “Bruges See… and Die”, the latest coup of the three has similarly bizarre and lovable characters ready, set on a fairytale island during the Irish Civil War.

Another well-established team can be found at “Operation Fortune” also from January 5th. After “Cash Truck”, Guy Ritchie (54) once again sends one-man wrecking ball Jason Statham (55) into battle – this time as an MI6 agent. And as in Ritchie’s “The Gentlemen”, Hugh Grant (62) can show his sleazy side again.

In “Babylon – In the Rush of Ecstasy” “La La Land” Oscar director Damien Chazelle transported Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie to the wild 1920s Hollywood on January 19. An exciting, seminal era in which sound films increasingly replaced silent films and changed the dream factory forever.

It will take until February 9, 2023 before the first Marvel strip appears. With “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” Paul Rudd goes on his third solo adventure as a tiny little or skyscraper-sized superhero. Of course, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas – and a brand new threat should not be missing.

Channing Tatum will be stripping down one last time on February 9th when Steven Soderbergh’s “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” hits theaters. A higher six-pack density than in the third installment of the Stripper series will probably not be found in the whole of the coming year.

Top or flop? M. Night Shyamalan’s new film Knock At The Cabin, starring Dave Bautista, opens February 16th. The first trailer for the mysterious apocalypse film was very atmospheric, but that was almost always the case with Shyamalan flicks. Predicate: piñata.

For the first time without Rocky’s support, Michael B. Jordan will have to step into the ring as the title character in “Creed III.” He was able to defeat Ivan Drago’s son Viktor (Florian Munteanu) in the film before, now Damian “Dame” Anderson (Jonathan Majors) is another opponent waiting for him, who is closely interwoven with his past – he is a former friend of Adonis, who spent years in jail.

March 23 will be an important one for Nintendo fans. At least for those who like to watch films in the original. Because in the animated film “Super Mario Bros.” Hollywood star Chris Pratt speaks the plumber with aversion to mushrooms and turtles for the first time. By the way, Princess Peach is voiced by Anya-Taylor Joy, adversary Bowser by Jack Black!

There is also a completely different way to the hat from March 23 in “John Wick: Chapter 4”. As the title suggests, this is Keanu Reeves’ fourth campaign of revenge. This time Laurence Fishburne is in on the act as the Bowery King, while martial arts icon Donnie Yen also joins the fray.

A “Scream” will be heard for the sixth time starting on March 30th. The slasher series fills up the half-dozen with Ghostface’s latest knife attack. But will the once innovative horror franchise survive? Only Courteney Cox is left of the original cast, Neve Campbell reportedly couldn’t agree with the makers.

Nicolas Cage as Count Dracula, King of the Vampires? The premise of “Renfield” alone is enough to pre-order the cinema ticket for April 20th. As the title suggests, however, the film revolves around Dracula’s insane assistant, played by Nicholas Hoult.

On April 27, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” jet off on their third adventure away from the Avengers. In addition to the well-known and beloved characters around Groot and Star Lord (Chris Pratt), this time Will Poulter joins the group as the mysterious Adam Warlock.

Lead feet and fins are in demand in May. With “Fast X” the increasingly absurd “Fast

“The Little Mermaid” continues the trend of live-action adaptations of popular Disney cartoons from May 25th. The film caused a sad and undignified debate in advance when it became known that Arielle had been cast with the African-American Halle Bailey. Irrespective of this, it is to be hoped that the classic will get a better new edition than the last time “Pinocchio” was given.

“Spider-Man: A New Universe 2 – Across The Spider Verse” is the second installment in the acclaimed animated edition of the friendly neighborhood spider. Not Peter Parker, but Miles Morales is in it under the mask. The film for young and old starts on June 1st

The dramas about “The Flash” star Ezra Miller are slowly becoming just as Hollywood-ready as the film itself. Despite his antics, Warner stuck by him and the film, which is set to hit theaters June 22. This is the first solo film for the supersonic superhero from the DC universe, in “Justice League” he was already allowed to fight alongside Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.

It took a long time, but on June 29 Harrison Ford will finally swing back onto the screen in “Indiana Jones 5”. With more success than part four from 2008? At least the cast, which is placed alongside the old star Ford, gives hope: “Fleabag” icon Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen, who always knows how to convince, are there.

Instead of a summer slump, there will also be plenty of blockbusters in July. Would you like an example? With what feels like an eternity late, “Mission: Impossible 7” is finally coming to the cinema alongside Tom Cruise. Not much is known about the content of Ethan Hunt’s seventh impossible mission, but it’s guaranteed to be spectacular again when he tackles it on July 13th.

A week later, on July 20, Christopher Nolan’s new film “Oppenheimer” will be released. The star-studded drama (including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon) tells the true story of the development of the atomic bomb during World War II by physicist Robert Oppenheimer (Murphy).

The MCU is also back on July 20 with Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels, Brie Larson’s second solo film as the overpowering titular heroine. The personnel on the director’s chair is also interesting: “Candyman” director Nia DaCosta steers the fortunes of the second “Captain Marvel” film.

Still not enough for July. In fact, in midsummer, “Barbie” may be the strangest flick of the year. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken in a colorful world based on the screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach? This can be great – or a complete failure.

New Eberhofer case, new food pun: “Rehragout-Rendezvous”, the latest part of the successful book adaptation, starts on August 10th. Franz (Sebastian Bezzel) not only has to deal with his grandmother on strike, but also with a tricky missing person case.

Actually, Denzel Washington is not a sequel man. Ironically, in the “The Equalizer” franchise, he will make an exception for the second time next year: From August 31, he will ensure justice and broken bones in “The Equalizer 3” as Robert McCall.

The first month of the coming year that has been very sparsely occupied so far is September. Only the second part of the horror film “The Nun” is really worth mentioning – and that says a lot about the late summer slump.

It’s thin even in October. As a further alternative for horror fans, this time in the course of Halloween, “The Exorcist – Sequel Trilogy Part 1” starts on October 12th. The special thing about it is the director: David Gordon Green wants to revive the classic from 1973 as a trilogy – just like he did last time and very moderately with “Halloween”.

The German cinema releases for the films from November have not yet been secured. At least in the USA, the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi blockbuster “Dune” is to be released on November 3rd. It will continue the heroic journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) – then on the backs of the giant sandworms to save the desert planet and its inhabitants.

The US launch of The Hunger Games – The Ballad of Songbirds

“Aquaman 2” has been announced in the USA for December 25, 2023 and thus as the end of the coming cinema year. Once again, Jason Momoa ensures the safety of his sea creatures. Amber Heard also appears in the strip – or from. Will the sequel be able to repeat the immense success of its predecessor? The DC film grossed nearly $1.2 billion in 2018.
