Before her untimely death last year, Lisa Marie Presley was working on a biography, which is now scheduled to be published in autumn 2024. The as-yet-untitled book was completed thanks to the help of Presley’s daughter Riley Keough.
“Few people have had the opportunity to know who my mother really was, other than that she was Elvis’ daughter,” Keough was quoted as saying in a statement released Thursday by publisher Random House. “I was fortunate to have had this opportunity and working on preparing her autobiography for publication was a privilege, albeit a bittersweet one. I am so pleased to now be able to show my mother at her most vulnerable and honest, And I hope that readers love my mother as much as I do.”
The memoir is scheduled to be published on October 15th. Keough will also be narrating an audio book edition – which will also include some excerpts from her mother’s recorded memories. According to Random House, Lisa Marie Presley had wanted her daughter to help her with her memoir, but Keough “put off the project because she felt the time would come for them to sit down and finish it.” .
After Presley’s death, Keough listened to hours of tapes her mother had made in preparation for her life story. “Riley knew it was time for Lisa Marie’s voice to be heard,” the publisher’s announcement continued. “She listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being up at Graceland, just the two of them, a refuge from the chaos of her life. Random House describes the book as a “raw, compelling, unique memoir” narrated primarily by Lisa Marie Presley, “in which Riley fills in the gaps in her own memory and those closest to her mother.”
Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis (1935-1977) and Priscilla Presley (78), died on January 12, 2023 at the age of 54. A coroner’s inquest determined the cause of death to be an intestinal obstruction following surgery. Presley was buried at the Graceland estate, where her father’s grave and that of her son are also located.
