Rinu Nair, a recent graduate of Irvington High School and a product of the Fremont Unified School District, is running for a seat on the school board to represent the student body. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Nair is passionate about improving mental health services, increasing security on school campuses, and advocating for student well-being.
During her time in high school, Nair was actively involved in the Wellness Club, where she successfully pushed for the introduction of Hindi as a language. She believes that peer-to-peer tutoring and mental health services are crucial for student success. Nair is also in favor of maintaining School Resource Officers (SROs) or campus police to enhance security on school grounds.
If elected, Nair’s first order of business would be to review community feedback on budget priorities and work with fellow board members to address the $38 million deficit projected for the 2025-2026 school year. She aims to prioritize the quality of education, student wellness, and campus safety as her top three priorities.
Nair’s unique perspective as a former student and volunteer in the school district sets her apart from her competitors in the race. She has firsthand experience of the challenges students face, such as bullying, mental health stressors, and unmet program needs. Nair has worked on initiatives like introducing Hindi to the school district, including mental health in district guidelines, and implementing anonymous reporting systems on campus.
Unlike her opponent, Nair has a strong support system from local leaders and school board members due to her grassroots efforts and positive contributions to the school district. Her campaign focuses on uniting the community and students to create a better educational environment for all. With a deep understanding of student needs and a commitment to public service, Nair aims to bring a student voice to the board to ensure policies are made in the best interest of students, teachers, and staff.
