Luke Evans has just released his second solo album, on which the all-rounder belts out great ballads with a lot of feeling. Brite is shown as an actor (“The Hobbit”, “Fast
“He’s much more than just a Delta Force soldier,” says Evans in an interview with the German Press Agency in London about his character, who is nicknamed Bambi. “It’s a compelling story of family. It’s about what you would do for someone you love. How far would you go if you were faced with a situation where only you had control to save someone else’s life, of a person you love?”
Not just action, but a polished thriller
Already in the first episode it becomes clear that “Echo 3” is not just an action series, but a sophisticated thriller. First, Bambi and his brother-in-law Prince (Michiel Huisman from “Game Of Thrones”) are with their team on a rescue mission in Afghanistan, where not everything goes according to plan. Prince is convinced Bambi made a mistake.
The relationship between brother-in-law and brother-in-law is strained. Bambi’s sister and Prince’s wife Amber (Jessica Ann Collins, “Zero Dark Thirty”) can’t change that. The scientist is about to go on a research trip to the jungles of Colombia. There she is kidnapped by unscrupulous political activists. When they discover Amber’s connections, it’s not just about ransom anymore. Bambi and Prince take matters into their own hands.
“It’s about the geopolitical landscape in our world today, about the political situation in Colombia, Venezuela, the United States,” says Evans, “and how people are being taken hostage on a daily basis. They disappear and become one number, one Number. And these two men, who have been trained to the highest level, will do their utmost to save this woman. They will use their skill and strategic acumen to find her.”
Filming in South America is a challenge
The 43-year-old is in great shape and very athletic, but filming in South America was still a challenge for Evans. “I trained every day, in the heat, in the jungle or at night,” says the native Welshman. He also trained with the real Delta Force, a special unit of the US Army, and with soldiers from the Colombian Air Force. “I did everything, everywhere. I did it for ten months. It was incredibly intense, but it was a great job.”
The first impression: The result is absolutely impressive. The ten-part series by Oscar winner Mark Boal (“The Hurt Locker”) with complex, interesting characters is exciting and very action-packed right from the start. However, it is questionable whether Luke Evans will watch “Echo 3” again himself. “It’s exhausting for me to watch,” he jokes, “because every episode was such a struggle. I’m like, ‘Wow, oh my god! I almost collapsed that day.” But I’m happy about it.”
