Aline Abboud (35) is taking her maternity leave. As NDR announced in a press release on Monday, the presenter of “Tagesthemen” is now on maternity leave. A replacement for Abboud has already been found. Julia-Niharika Sen (56) will step in for her colleague.
“I think it’s great to soon be able to look more often at the exciting stories behind the current – often complicated and sometimes unwieldy – news,” NRD quotes Julia-Niharika Sen as saying. “And I’m looking forward to exploring the topics we discuss in the ‘ “Tagesschau’ can often only be touched upon briefly, to be deepened, to make it even more understandable and to follow up where things get difficult,” the spokeswoman continued.
Julia-Niharika Sen has been part of the “Tagesschau” moderation team since 2018. Her representation of Aline Abboud is not her first assignment for the “Tagesthemen”. She stepped in in 2021 and 2022 when the moderators were unable to attend.
Now Sen, together with Helge Fuhst (39), will relieve the main presenters Jessy Wellmer (44) and Ingo Zamperoni (49). Fuhst has been active as a representative since 2020.
Aline Abboud announced her pregnancy via Instagram in September 2023. “The only night shift I’m looking forward to,” she wrote alongside the picture of herself posing with a baby bump.
Now she will swap the “Daily Topics” table with the changing table, she said on January 7th in her last broadcast before the break. It is not yet known when Aline Abboud will return.
