According to Boris Becker’s lawyer, Lilly Becker has agreed to a divorce from the former tennis professional. A hearing scheduled for this Monday at the responsible London family court was canceled “after Sharlely Becker agreed in writing to my client’s application for a final divorce (decree absolute),” said Becker’s lawyer Christian-Oliver Moser in response to a request from the German Press Agency. The magazine “Bunte” had previously reported on it.
“It is now up to the court to decide on the final divorce. My client hopes for a timely confirmation,” it continued. The 55-year-old will not comment further for reasons of protecting his privacy. The lawyer for 47-year-old Sharlely “Lilly” Becker did not initially respond to a request.
Lilly and Boris Becker have their son Amadeus (13). The three-time Wimbledon winner was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in London in April 2022 for concealing millions in assets from his insolvency administrators. He was released in December 2022, was immediately deported to Germany and is not allowed to travel to his former adopted home of Great Britain for the time being. According to recent information, Becker lives in Italy with his partner Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro.
Lawyer Moser announced a week and a half ago: “Both spouses had already agreed to the dissolution of the marriage in 2018.” Under English law, a so-called decree nisi is first required to initiate a divorce. The person applying for divorce can apply for a so-called decree absolute after six weeks and one day at the earliest. If this is granted, the divorce is final.
