The nominations for the 96th Academy Awards have been announced. Numerous filmmakers such as the German actress Sandra Hülser (45), “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan (53) and veteran star Robert De Niro (“Killers of the Flower Moon”, 80) are in their respective roles before the Oscars on March 10th Categories for voting. But as every year, some big names are not among the nominees.
While “Barbie”, last year’s most successful film at the box office, is nominated for “Best Film”, filmmaker Greta Gerwig (40) is not among the nominees in the “Best Director” category, which is a big surprise. Gerwig can at least be happy about a nomination in the “Best Adapted Screenplay” category, which she shares with husband Noah Baumbach (54).
Also surprising is the fact that “Barbie” lead actress Margot Robbie (33) was not included in the Oscar category “Best Actress”. Superstar Leonardo DiCaprio (49) was once again overlooked for the Oscar nominations – an almost annual phenomenon for the “Killers of the Flower Moon” leading actor. After all, DiCaprio already has a golden boy on the shelf for “The Revenant.”
In addition to these three biggest names, many other stars and film titles are also missing from the nominees. For example, four-time Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (“Poor Things”, 68) received no nomination, nor did “The Holdovers” director Alexander Payne (62), whose work, like “Barbie”, is in the Oscar race for “Best Film”. . The titles “Saltburn”, “Priscilla”, “Asteroid City” and “The Killer”, which have been positively received by audiences and film critics in recent weeks and months, were not nominated for an Oscar in a single category.
