According to media reports, the German actor Christian Oliver died in a plane crash at the age of 51. Broadcaster RTL, for example, refers to a statement from the responsible police authority called the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force. Accordingly, in addition to Oliver and the pilot, the actor’s two daughters also died when the small plane crashed.
“The four bodies of the above-mentioned persons were recovered by Coast Guard personnel and later declared dead by a doctor,” it said. The plane crashed for reasons that are still unclear last Thursday (January 4th) during a flight from the tourist island of Bequia towards the island state of St. Lucia.
“Fishermen and divers from Paget Farm went to the scene in their boats to provide assistance. The SVG Coast Guard was informed and quickly traveled to Paget Farm, Bequia to lead the rescue work,” the statement said Authorities. But apparently any help came too late.
Oliver gained fame in Germany primarily through his role in the action series “Alarm für Cobra 11 – The Autobahn Police”. He played Chief Inspector Jan Richter alongside “Cobra 11” veteran Erdogan Atalay (57) from 2002 to 2004.
Oliver’s former TV colleague Atalay is quoted by RTL as saying: “It’s absolutely horrible and my thoughts are with the mother. The idea of staying behind as a parent and having to endure this horror is indescribable.”
Oliver also celebrated international success in front of the camera. For example, he appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s (60) thriller “The Good German – In the Ruins of Berlin” alongside Oscar winners Cate Blanchett (54) and George Clooney (62), as well as in “Operation Walküre – Das Stauffenberg- Assassination” with Tom Cruise (61).
