King Willem-Alexander (55) visited the helpers and rescue workers on Tuesday at the site of the train accident in Voorschoten, the Netherlands, in which two trains ran into a construction crane. Visibly upset, he expressed his sympathy and tried to offer consolation. One person died in the accident and 30 others were injured.
The royal palace shared four pictures of Willem-Alexander’s visit to the site on Instagram. It said: “The King is visiting the scene of the train accident in Voorschoten to express his condolences and to speak to those directly affected. At the spot where the train derailed, residents tell about the help they are giving to the victims and occupants of the train have done during the previous night.”
And further: “The king and the state secretary for infrastructure and water management Heijnen also spoke to rescue workers, including the police and fire brigade, as well as representatives of the Midden region, NS and ProRail.”
