The line-up for King Charles III’s coronation concert. (74) is certain. A musical star line-up including Katy Perry (38), Lionel Richie (73) and the band Take That will perform in front of 20,000 people at Windsor Castle on May 7, the BBC announced on Friday. It will be the first live show since 2019 for the trio of Gary Barlow (52), Howard Donald (54) and Mark Owen (51). Ex-band member Robbie Williams (49) had previously ruled out performing with the band.
Perry and Richie are both American Idol judges and ambassadors for charities founded by Charles: The US singer has been an ambassador for the British Asian Trust charity since 2020, while Richie has been an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust since 2019.
One day after the coronation in Westminster Abbey on May 6, the opera stars Andrea Bocelli (64) and Sir Bryn Terfel (57) will also be part of the program and perform a duet. In addition, singer-songwriter Freya Ridings (28) and classic soul artist Alexis Ffrench (53) will perform live.
There will also be a Coronation Choir singing in honor of the king. It consists of singers from the Portishead RNLI Sea Shanty Choir, farmers, taxi drivers and reggae groups from across the UK. His performance will be complemented by a virtual choir made up of singers from across the Commonwealth, it said.
“The concert will celebrate a new chapter in the nation’s history with themes of love, respect and optimism, and pay tribute to the four nations, their communities and the Commonwealth,” writes the BBC, which is organizing the forthcoming concert. The station will also be broadcasting the spectacle live from Windsor Castle.
Guests will include members of the public and select individuals. Fans can look forward to “a wide mix of music, from pop to classical, along with spoken word and dance performances reflecting the arts and culture of the UK and wider Commonwealth,” explains the BBC. There will also be a spectacular light show.
Other performers would be “announced shortly,” it said.
