The Swedish King Carl XVI. Gustaf (76) underwent a planned heart surgery on Monday (February 20). This “went according to plan and the king feels good,” said the palace in Stockholm. The king thanked him for “all the support and warmth that was shown to him”. He is also grateful for the Swedish healthcare system.
The royal family announced the intervention last week. On the advice of his personal doctor, the monarch had a so-called “keyhole operation” carried out, Swedish media reported. After the operation, you have to take it easy. His commitments between February 20 and March 3 would therefore be postponed to later in the spring.
King Carl XVI Gustaf has an eventful year ahead: the monarch will celebrate his 50th anniversary on the throne in 2023. He had the throne in 1973 after the death of his grandfather Gustaf VI. Adolf (1882-1973), mounted. Carl XVI’s father Gustaf, Gustav Adolf Hereditary Prince of Sweden (1906-1947), died in a plane crash in Denmark in 1947. At that time the current king was nine months old.
