The US actor Kevin Spacey (63) is one of the most prominent suspects in the MeToo movement. From June 28th, Spacey has to appear in court in London. In the UK he faces a total of twelve cases of alleged sexual assault against four men. Spacey has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
For the first time, the fallen and controversial Hollywood star gave “Zeit Magazin” an insight into his life after the allegations against him became known – and was combative when it came to his chances in court and his professional future.
“The moment these things come under scrutiny, they fall apart,” said the two-time Academy Award winner ahead of a court hearing that could potentially result in jail time if convicted. That’s how it was “at the Anthony Rapp trial”, “and that’s how it will be with this trial too!”
The actor Anthony Rapp (51), known among other things from the sci-fi series “Star Trek: Discovery”, had accused Spacey of sexually molesting him in 1986 when Rapp was just 14 years old. But a New York jury found Spacey not guilty in October last year.
After a potential acquittal, Spacey is certain that his acting comeback is only a matter of time. “We live in a time where many people fear they will be canceled if they support me,” says Spacey, adding: “But as soon as I’m acquitted in London, certain people will offer me roles again. Still in same minute!” He himself is ready for a return in front of the camera or on the stage.
Spacey, who received an Oscar for his performance in “American Beauty” (1999) and “The Usual Suspects” (1995), has only been involved in a few smaller film productions in recent years. He appeared in the two feature films “Billionaire Boys Club” (2018) and “L’uomo che disegnò Dio” (2022), and landed a voice role in the independent thriller “Control”.
