British actress Kate Beckinsale (50) mourns the death of her stepfather Roy Battersby. The director died on January 10th at the age of 87. The actress confirmed his death on Instagram. Last Wednesday (January 10th) she initially shared a black photo without comment. On Monday (January 15), she posted a video montage and wrote: “I have no words yet. […] I fought for you with everything I have. Oh Roy, I’m so sorry that I have lost.”
Beckinsale also shared a short obituary on her Instagram story: “It is with great sadness that the family of film and TV director Roy Battersby announces the news of his death after a short illness.” He died peacefully surrounded by his family in Los Angeles on January 10th at the age of 87, it said. The funeral will take place in London.
After the Golden Globes on January 8, Beckinsale shared several photos from the ceremony, including some that showed her still in the hospital at Battersby’s bedside in her glamorous red carpet outfit. “Golden Globes 2024 from start to finish,” she wrote about the footage.
Roy Battersby was born in London in 1936 and worked as a film and television director from the late 1960s. Among other things, he directed several episodes of the BBC series “Between The Lines” and the ITV series “Cracker” as well as the thriller “Red Mercury” (2005). In 1996 he received the Alan Clarke Award from the British BAFTAs.
In 1997, after a long relationship, Battersby married actress Judy Loe (76) and officially became Kate Beckinsale’s stepfather. Her biological father Richard Beckinsale died of a heart attack in 1979, when Beckinsale was five years old.
