The scandal surrounding Dutchman Joost Klein (26) at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest is still reverberating. But the singer’s exclusion shortly before the final does not affect the singer’s success, on the contrary: As GfK Entertainment announced in a special evaluation after the ESC, his song “Europapa” catapulted to number one in the German streaming charts. Nemo (24) and the winning title “The Code”, however, only made it to second place. In third place in this country is the German entry “Always On The Run” by Isaak (29).

In Belgium and the Netherlands, “Europe” is also in first place, just ahead of “The Code”. Nemo, on the other hand, was able to grab the place in the sun in Austria, Portugal and of course Switzerland and, in addition to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, also placed second in the current streaming charts in France and Italy. Baby Lasagna (28) with “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” from Croatia and Slimane (34) with “Mon amour” from France are also partly in the upper reaches of the European charts. By the way: The greatest enthusiasm for the ESC apparently comes from Switzerland and Belgium: There are currently eight songs from the music competition in the top 100. Austria and the Netherlands follow, each with seven ESC songs in the respective hit lists.

A few hours before the ESC final on Saturday, Joost Klein was excluded from the ongoing competition in Malmö by the European Broadcasting Union EBU and was not allowed to appear. To date, it has not been conclusively clarified what exactly happened behind the scenes. According to a statement from the Dutch broadcasting group Avrotros, Klein is said to have made a move towards a woman who allegedly took photos of him contrary to the agreement. The rapper did not touch her.

According to Swedish police, Klein will likely be charged with threatening a production employee. The investigation has been completed, said police spokesman Jimmy Modin, according to media reports. According to Modin, charges are likely to be filed within the next few weeks.

In the run-up to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Klein was considered one of the biggest favorites for the title with his song “Europapa”. The musician became known in Germany alongside rapper Ski Aggu (26). Together they covered the former Otto Waalkes hit “Friesenjung”, which once gave the world-famous melody of the Sting hit “Englishman in New York” a humorous and new text.
