Just a few weeks ago, DC boss James Gunn (56) presented his plans for a new Superman and Batman movie. Superman: Legacy is slated to hit theaters in July 2025, while a new Batman film is titled The Brave and the Bold and currently has no release date. Taking to Twitter, Gunn has now responded to questions from some users, correcting incorrect assumptions about the ages of the two iconic superheroes in their upcoming solo films.
Literally, when asked by a Twitter user if the new Batman actor would be in his early 30s, Gunn replied: “He hasn’t been cast yet.” When another user later assumed that the new Batman actor would be in his early 30s since Gunn said the new Superman actor would be 25, the DC boss replied: “People speculate about both ages”. All he said was that the new Superman would be younger than 40 and the new Batman might be a few years older than Superman. On the other hand, Gunn never said that Superman (and his actor, who has also not yet been cast) will be 25 years old, although this is exactly what is often claimed in various media.
At the end of October 2022, it was announced that filmmaker Gunn, together with producer Peter Safran (57), would become the new co-chairman and co-CEO of the renamed DC Studios. At the end of January this year, Gunn and Safran presented their eight to ten year master plan for the future of the DCU. The first chapter of it is entitled “Gods and Monsters”. Superman: Legacy will be about a younger Superman who works as a reporter. Batman: The Brave and the Bold not only introduces a new Dark Knight, but also Batman’s son Damian Wayne, who becomes his sidekick Robin.
In addition, “The Batman – Part II” by director Matt Reeves (56) with Robert Pattinson (36) in the leading role will also be implemented. This film is slated to hit theaters in October 2025. It is not part of the DCU but runs under the separate label DC Elseworlds.
