Britney Spears, 40, responded to the interview her son Jayden James, 15, gave to ITV in an Instagram post. In it he stated, among other things, that it would take “a lot of time and effort” to repair the broken relationship with his mother, but also showed a willingness to reconcile. “I just want her to be better mentally. When she’s better, I really want to see her again.” Her sons Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden have reportedly not been in contact with their mother for months and were also absent from her wedding to Sam Asghari, 28, in June.

First, the singer was sad about her son’s statements about his childhood in her post. “My love for my children knows no bounds and it saddens me deeply to hear him lament that I have not lived up to his expectations as a mother.” Jayden claimed in the conversation that Spears had trouble paying attention to her sons and “showing us equal love, and I don’t think she showed Preston enough.” Spears now hopes “that maybe one day we can meet face to face and talk openly about it.” She also sends her love to her son Sean Preston, who has not spoken.

In a sharper tone, she added to Jayden, “Maybe dear child, you can explain to me why our family would do this to someone! I helped your father who hasn’t had a job for 15 years. I suppose it is easier for you when no one is checking on you to make sure you do your homework.” Referring to her ex-husband and father of her sons, Kevin Federline, 44, she said: “I am sure that your father’s standards of smoking weed every day will benefit your daily life at 15 and 16, one belong to the cool generation.”

Federline also gave the broadcaster an interview as part of a documentary. In it he stated, among other things, that the media interest that accompanied Spears’ fight against her guardianship of father Jamie Spears (70) had also had an impact on him and his sons. It was hard for him to see what Jayden and Sean had to go through because of it. “It’s horrible to see your father being a hypocrite and saying the media is horrible but he lets you talk to them about personal matters,” Spears said in her post.

Jayden said in his interview on the subject of guardianship and his grandfather: “At first he was just trying to be like every father and let his daughter pursue her dream of becoming a superstar. But I think that the guardianship lasted too long, probably was my mum so angry that she worked so long and I think she should have taken a break.” He loves Jamie Spears with all his heart and he and Spears’ mother Lynne (67) are “not bad people”.

“As for my mental health, my dear child, you must understand that before you even think about my intellect, you must learn to pick up a book and read,” Britney Spears said, angry at her son’s assessments. If he wanted to use his “reasonable, brilliant mind” to say that what her parents did to her was okay and call them “not bad people”, then she failed as a mother.

Britney Spears was married to former backup dancer Kevin Federline from 2004 to 2007. After the divorce, he was awarded custody of their sons. In 2008, Spears’ father was appointed her guardian by a court. In November 2021, a judge lifted Jamie Spears’ guardianship.
