The 34-year-old and his wife, a police officer, fell in love with each other shortly before the lockdown. The engagement followed at Christmas 2021 and the woman gave birth to a daughter the following year. One day in June 2023 she was supposed to take the eight-month-old baby to the doctor. The man tried to reach her to find out how the appointment went – but to no avail. After hours had passed and he still hadn’t heard from his wife, he turned on the pet camera he usually used to monitor his two dogs. But he could hardly believe what he heard.
“As soon as I turned the camera on, I saw my wife sitting on the floor with our baby on her lap, talking to someone on Facetime,” he tells the Daily Mail in an exclusive interview. “She said ‘Say thank you to Dad for buying you the presents yesterday’ and ‘Are you showing Dad your present?’. He watched the video on loop to make sure she had really just said that.” As soon as When she hung up, she texted me and said, ‘It’s fine, the baby is having trouble’.”
He wrote back angrily: “It must be hard for the baby when you call me daddy when I’m at home – and when I’m at work you meet her biological father.” But the wife downplayed the incident, telling him that the baby called every one of her colleagues “daddy.” Apparently because she was struggling with the role of mother and a colleague suggested she play a kind of “happy family” role while her husband was at work – to “lighten the burden”. But she would never have mentioned such problems to her husband. They did have sleepless nights and tears sometimes flowed – as is usual with a newborn. “But she never told me she had any problems. She never told me she was struggling.”
After his wife continued to claim for weeks that the child was his, the firefighter secretly took a paternity test. Four days later he confirmed that he was not the biological father. At some point he also contacted the friend of his wife’s lover, who told him that the affair had lasted for three years.
The husband has now moved in with his parents. According to his own statements, he has not seen the child for eight months. “I miss her like crazy. She’s 15 months old now. I’d do anything to see her again, but I’ll probably never see her again.” He doesn’t want to complicate his daughter’s life. “She doesn’t deserve to wonder who this strange man is that comes by twice a month.”
In an attempt to hold the child’s mother accountable, he filed an official complaint with the police, his wife’s employer. There he explains that one of her employees broke the law by knowingly providing false information on a birth certificate. But his wife denies this claim.
