the end of the 2000-he was Lady Gaga the biggest pop star in the world. This was due not only to their music, but also that they wore Outfits made of pieces of meat or human hair and for the price ceremonies with blood showered. She was referring to artists such as Jeff Koons and Performance artist Marina Abramovic. Their music, however, they described themselves as “soulless electronic Pop” – the Sound was only a part of the larger overall concept.

The Lady Gaga of the last few years, however, was a completely different. To wear instead of pieces of meat or to pour over with blood, to stand at the Oscars 2019 in a black evening dress next to a wing, and languished for the tear-Jerker “Shallow” from the Soundtrack of the love drama “A Star is Born” Bradley Cooper. The role of the provocateur had in the meantime taken over the younger pop stars like Miley Cyrus. On Lady Gaga’s last Album “Joanne” (2016) gave a rather approachable and played no plastic Pop more, but a authenticity suggerier the end of the mélange of Soft Rock and Country ballads. Thus, it was commercially very successful and inspired even those Miley Cyrus to return to their Country roots (“Younger Now”, 2017). The just-released new Album from Lady Gaga, “Chromatica”, documented a u-turn.
Consistently suitable for the club, and sometimes uneasy
The Chromatic scale is the one that contains, in semitone steps, all the notes of the piano keyboard. “Chromatica” is an Album that does not contain all of the sounds, but very many sounds. It’s often reminiscent of the Electro-House, the delivery end of the 2000-he’s in big room discos, and sounds in the best sense, extravagantly. Again and again Lady Gaga uses a chant that is reminiscent of Madonna’s “Vogue” – a Song that you can think of well as a pioneer for this incarnation of the Lady-Gaga-Sounds. That’s not enough, the references to: With “Babylon” it is possible to build from a bass line of the Post-Punk Band New Order, a Song that could accompany the catwalk at a Drag Show. And, of all things, “Sine From Above”, a duet with Elton John, ends with a melodic Drum’n’Bass Part.
in Spite of the extrovert Sounds, there are lines of text, which can look deep. “911” tells the story of self-destructive behavior, “Rain On Me” (with Ariana Grande), however, is about to endure the trauma and gain new self-confidence. “Fun Tonight” adds a Meta-level: “You love the paparazzi, love the fame / Even though you know it causes me pain”, sings Lady Gaga and says “You”, yourself. It refers not only to the beginnings of (the debut album “The Fame” which contained the Hit “Paparazzi”). She also makes it clear that her celebrity and the public’s interest in your Person make you addictive and at the same time, psychologically straining. In this Moment, the whole Album feels in its combination of extroverted Sound and introspective lyrics – as short as unhealthy exhibitionism, and as a listener, you feel like a Voyeur. So Chromatica has become a very club-ready, but sometimes very uncomfortable Album.
