How I Met Your Mother spin-off How I Met Your Father is not getting a third season. The series starring Hilary Duff (35) has been canceled by the Hulu streaming service. This is reported by the US trade journal “Deadline”. “How I Met Your Father” premiered in the United States in January 2022, and has a total of 30 episodes. Viewers will probably never find out who the father of Sophie’s (Duff) child is.
The comedy series How I Met Your Father, which has now been discontinued, was not a direct offshoot of the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which aired from 2005 to 2014, but is set in the same series universe. With Neil Patrick Harris’ (50) fan favorite Barney Stinson and Cobie Smulders’ (41) Robin Scherbatsky, two original characters from “How I Met Your Mother” have already appeared in the spin-off.
The series “How I Met Your Father” is about the photographer Sophie, who is looking for her great love in New York City. “Sex and the City” star Kim Cattrall (67) embodied the older Sophie, who remembers the events of that time in the future – just like the older Ted Mosby in “How I Met Your Mother”.
However, the Hulu series was never able to match the success of its predecessor. On the review collection site “Rotten Tomatoes”, the first season, which was broadcast in 2022, received only 37 percent positive ratings, season two from this year did even worse with only 33 percent.
The Disney group, which is the majority owner of the streaming service Hulu, did not comment on the reasons for the cancellation. However, Disney has been trying for a long time to reduce costs in the loss-making streaming area. For example, the popular Hulu series “The Great” with Elle Fanning (25) and Nicholas Hoult (33) was canceled last week. The series “Dr. Doogie Kamealoha” will also not be continued on the Disney streaming service.
