The Academy Museum in Los Angeles, which opened in 2021, wants to honor Hollywood star Meryl Streep (74) with an honorary award as an “icon”. The three-time Oscar winner (“The Iron Lady”) is to receive the “Icon Award” on October 14, as the museum management announced. The award is given to artists who have made a “significant, global cultural impact”.
Also US director and actor Michael B. Jordan (36, “Creed III – Rocky’s Legacy”), presenter and actress Oprah Winfrey (69, “The Color Purple”) and director, screenwriter and actress Sofia Coppola (52, “Lost in Translation”) are to be honored for their services to the film industry. Last year, “Pretty Woman” star Julia Roberts received the “Icon Award”.
Actress Halle Berry and director Ava DuVernay will co-create the awards gala in October. Many prominent guests are expected at the fundraiser event. The donations will go to museum programs.
