Two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson said she suffered from the hustle and bustle surrounding the awards. “Both times I had to do the Oscars, I got sick, pretty seriously sick. Before and during,” the 63-year-old said on the Radio Times podcast.
The British explained that the pressure and the spotlight were too much for her at the time. “It’s not something I like very much.” After that, she wanted to lie down in a dark room and thought, Please don’t ask me any questions, Thompson said. “It’s horrible. I quickly developed a kind of allergy to it. But it’s part of the job.” The Hollywood actress did not say any more about her health problems at the time.
Thompson won an Oscar in 1993 for her role in Howard’s End, and in 1996 for writing Sense and Sensibility, in which she also starred. She was also nominated for the trophy three more times.
