Singer Geri Horner (formerly Halliwell) celebrated her 51st birthday on Sunday (August 6) – on Instagram she surprised three of her former Spice Girls colleagues with sweet congratulations. Emma Bunton (47), Victoria Beckham (49) and Melanie C (49) each published several throwback posts for their friend’s anniversary and found emotional words that show how close the members of the former girl band are still.
Melanie C aka Sporty Spice published an Instagram post with three photos showing her at different ages together with Geri Halliwell aka Ginger Spice. Along with congratulations, the musician wrote: “Wow these birthdays are just too fast! We have made so many wonderful memories together and I hope there will be more. Have an amazing day, love you so much Ginge .”
Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice posted a reel on her Instagram channel with many different photos and videos from the Spice Girls history as well as personal shots from her friendship with Halliwell. She wrote: “I love you so much. Happy birthday my soul sister. I hope you are spoiled and sending you lots of hugs.”
Victoria Beckham also took the opportunity to wish Geri Halliwell a happy birthday via Instagram. In her story she posted a photo from former band days that shows them both smiling happily in front of a plane. She wrote: “Happy Birthday! I love you!!!” The fifth member Mel B (48) aka Scary Spice, on the other hand, did not comment publicly on her band colleague’s birthday.
According to various rumors, Mel C’s desire for new Spice Girls experiences together could soon become a reality. In 2024 the band will celebrate their 30th anniversary. Plans are said to be running behind the scenes that the group should then be five on stage for the first time since 2012. As a special highlight of the reunion, an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival is planned.
In addition to the reunion, there are apparently other Spice Girls plans in the drawer: there could be a TV documentary with footage that has never been seen before. Netflix and Apple TV are said to be interested in securing the rights.
The band formed in 1994 and reached number one in 37 countries in 1996 with their debut single “Wannabe”. The Spice Girls became a symbol of ’90s feminism. Geri Horner announced her departure in 1998, and in 2000 the whole band took a break. All singers started solo careers. They reunited briefly in 2007 for a worldwide tour, with tickets for their London O2 performance selling out in two minutes. Five years later, they performed at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics. In 2019, Beckham went on a tour of the UK.
