The twins Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen (36) embodied the little girl Michelle Tanner in the series “Full House” from 1987 to 1995. However, their colleague John Stamos (59) made sure that the two were removed from the set at least for a short time and were almost completely fired. He recalls this on the Good Guys podcast.
As “People” reports, among other things, the actor of Uncle Jesse was annoyed by the screaming of the small children during filming. “Both wanted to be somewhere else than there,” he said, adding, “And so did I.” At the time, the twins, who shared a role, were just 11 months old. “I said, ‘This isn’t going to work, guys,’ and I yelled it ten times,” Stamos said. In the end, he demanded: “Take them away, I can’t work like that.”
In fact, the producers briefly replaced the Olsen twins with “two redheaded kids.” But Stamos wasn’t happy with them either: “I’m sure her parents loved her and found her attractive.” It wasn’t because of the red hair, but the replacement just wasn’t cute. “It was a day or so, we tried it with the other kids, it didn’t work.” He then begged: “Bring back the Olsens, these children are terrible!”
John Stamos had already spoken about these events on the set of the cult sitcom in 2015. At the time, he said, “I wanted to get rid of her.” The twins weren’t the only ones he had trouble with early on in Full House. The chemistry with colleague Bog Saget (1956-2022) was not right at first. “The interesting thing was that initially we didn’t really like each other,” Stamos said at the annual Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine fundraiser in September 2022. “We were very different, we came from different approaches to acting.” The differences ultimately made them interesting for each other: “And then we were best friends until his death.”
