“So, does anyone here have a bad breakup story besides me?” I ask the room. It’s the first time I’ve asked my audience to do something so revealing. I myself am used to emotionally undressing in front of the whole world. But others feel completely different, I know that. I feel a drop of sweat running down my neck: Will anyone dare? “No problem, I can wait,” I joke. A few pseudo-confident jokes later, a few people have actually found each other to talk about their broken loved ones. And at some point she gets in touch, a woman in her mid-20s. Let’s call her Charlotte.

“I am the best example of how karma will strike back sooner or later,” she begins. “And in my case, quite directly.”
