The journalist Franca Lehfeldt (33) has been working for the news channel Welt since last year. Recently, however, the wife of the FDP leader Christian Lindner (44) caused a stir. During her moderation on Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, there was a slip of the tongue.

She explained that 78 years ago the Red Army Faction liberated the survivors of the German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. But actually Lehfeldt meant the Red Army, as the soldiers of the former Soviet Union were called. The Red Army Faction, RAF for short, on the other hand, was a left-wing extremist terrorist organization that was founded in the 1970s.

Your false moderation quickly spread on social media – many users made fun of Lehfeldt. The 33-year-old has now commented on the incident via Twitter. “I made a promise to a moderator. That shouldn’t happen in live situations, but unfortunately it is. People make mistakes,” she begins her tweet. At the same time, she makes it clear: “There followed a disproportionate wave of malice and, above all, sexism. I wonder what’s going on in the minds that take part in it.”

German Finance Minister Christian Lindner married Franca Lehfeldt in July 2022. The two have been a couple since 2018. Lehfeldt worked for RTL News for a long time, as chief reporter for Politik Magazine. She is also the chief reporter at the Welt television station.
