It’s been almost 25 years since “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”, the film adaptation of the first novel in the Harry Potter book series, was released in cinemas in 2001. Meanwhile, the early youthful fans have grown up – but that doesn’t stop many of them from continuing to collect whatever merchandising comes onto the market. Miriam Margolyes (82), who played Hogwarts professor Pomona Sprout in the series, finds this quite bizarre.
In a recent interview with New Zealand’s 1News, she commented on the phenomenon, concluding: “You should be over it by now. You know, I mean, it’s been 25 years, and it’s for kids. I think it is is for children.”
For this reason, she has little understanding for adults who turn their wedding into a “Harry Potter” theme party. When she hears about things like this, she thinks to herself, “My goodness, what will their first night of fun be like? I really can’t imagine that. No.”
Last year, the British-Australian actress made it clear in an interview with British “Vogue” that the “Harry Potter” series was much less important to her than to the fans. There she said: “For me ‘Harry Potter’ wasn’t important. I was very happy I got the part and I enjoyed being there and meeting all the people, but it’s not Charles Dickens.”
