The awards will be presented at the Berlin Film Festival on Saturday evening (6.30 p.m.). US actress Kristen Stewart heads the international jury this year. Together with the other members, she decides which films and achievements are awarded. A total of 19 productions are in the running.
The Golden Bear is awarded to the best film in the competition. Several Silver Bears are also awarded, for example for best director and best screenplay. When it comes to acting awards, the Berlinale no longer distinguishes by gender, but honors the best performances in leading and supporting roles.
Five German productions are also in the running this time: the literary adaptation “Sometime we will tell each other everything” by director Emily Atef, the biopic “Ingeborg Bachmann – Reise in die Wüste” by Margarethe von Trotta, the crime thriller “Until the end of the night” by Christoph Hochhäusler, the drama “Red Sky” by Christian Petzold and Angela Schanelec’s film collage “Music”.
Alongside Cannes and Venice, the Berlinale is one of the major film festivals. The film festival in Berlin is taking place for the 73rd time. Last year, the drama “Alcarràs – The Last Harvest” won the Golden Bear. The drama tells of peach farmers in Spain whose livelihood is endangered by the construction of a solar park. Director Carla Simón is on the jury this year.
