Although the next Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) will not take place until May 2024 in Malmö, Sweden, preparations are already underway in this country. Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) is looking for acts that would like to represent Germany.
Bands, artists of all genres can now apply for the German preliminary round “Eurovision Song Contest – The German Final 2024”. Interested parties can find a corresponding form on the website “eurovision.de”. Singers have around a month. The application deadline is October 5th.
The conditions for an application are listed on the page. The NDR would like to announce details of the exact selection process for the candidates at a later date. It will still be a few months before it is clear who will be traveling to Sweden for Germany. The preliminary decision will not take place until February 16th in Berlin. The whole thing can be seen live on the first, via “eurovision.de” and in the ARD media library.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the public television company SVT announced in July that the upcoming music competition would take place in Malmö. The final of the Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 11, 2024. The two semi-finals will take place in the same week, on May 7th and May 9th.
As is well known, the ESC 2023 last May was unfavorable for Germany. Unfortunately, the band Lord of the Lost could only take last place in Liverpool, behind Great Britain and Serbia. In contrast, the singer Loreen (39) won again with her song “Tattoo” and brought next year’s edition back to Sweden. She had already been successful at the ESC in Baku in 2012 with the song “Euphoria”.
