Good news for all fans of the multi-award-winning series “The White Lotus”: As has now been officially announced via HBO and Sky Germany, the third season will finally start next February. The filming locations were in and around Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok in Thailand.
The confirmed cast has also grown again in the announcement – and significantly so. In addition to the previously announced returnee Natasha Rothwell (43), who will slip back into her role called Belinda from season one, “Iron Man” star Leslie Bibb (49) and “Harry Potter” villain Jason Isaacs (60) will also be joining us. and “True Detective” actress Michelle Monaghan (47). The other names are Dom Hetrakul, Parker Posey and Tayme Thapthimthong.
It was already known that this third season would take place in Thailand and would revolve around “a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality.” In November of last year, showrunner Mike White (53) revealed to “EW”: “It will be an oversized ‘White Lotus’ [season].” According to the 53-year-old, the new episodes will be “longer, bigger and crazier”. He is also “super excited” and “excited about the story of the season.”
The premiere season of the HBO series had six episodes in the summer of 2021, and season two had seven episodes around a year and a half later. Now it is rumored that the US cable channel will increase the season length to around ten episodes – as is usual for other flagship series of the channel such as “House of the Dragon” or “The Last of Us”. It is also assumed that the new episodes will appear in 2025.
The start of the anthology series, which takes place in a different resort of the fictional hotel chain “The White Lotus” each season, won ten Emmys in 2021. The second season is even nominated for 23 Emmys; It will soon become clear how many of these can be converted into prizes: the 75th edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on January 15th, and the Creative Arts Emmys will be awarded a week before.
