Legendary rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis (1935-2022) has died. The musician died of natural causes at his home in Memphis, Tennessee, on Friday morning at the age of 87. Numerous stars pay tribute to the musician on social media, including Elton John (75).

He shared a picture with the music icon on Instagram and wrote: “I wouldn’t have been who I am today without Jerry Lee Lewis. He was groundbreaking and exciting and he pulverized the piano. He was also brilliant Singer. Thanks for the inspiration and all the rock ‘n’ roll memories.”

Kid Rock (51) also remembers meeting the “Great Balls of Fire” singer and wrote on Twitter: “I will always cherish my time with Jerry Lee on and off the stage. Without question one of the best, ever was. Your music will always live through me and the rest of the world! Rest in peace and ‘Rock on!'”

Mick Jagger (79) also posted an old photo of him with Jerry Lee Lewis and tweeted: “God bless Jerry Lee. Your songs have brightened my life!” The Louisiana-born pianist nicknamed himself “The Killer” and was best known for his aggressive piano playing and legendary stage shows. Jagger’s Rolling Stones colleague Keith Richards (78) shared an old clip of the musician’s performance and commented: “Goodbye killer. Rest in peace.”

Dennis Quaid (68), who embodied the singer in the 1989 film biography “Great Balls of Fire – Jerry Lee Lewis – A Life for Rock’n’Roll”, published a picture with Lewis by photographer Mark Shepard on Instagram and commented on it : “Jerry Lee Lewis was a Christian, an American icon and the greatest pianist in the world. In 500 years people will still be hearing ‘Great Balls of Fire’ and ‘Whole Lot of Shakin’. I will miss him.”
