An advertising campaign by Donald Trump (76) for his election campaign backfired: Trump had uploaded a fundraising video to his social media platform Truth Social, in which a monologue by Matt Damon (42) from the new film “Air” was heard. In it, the actor says in his role, among other things: “You can buy almost anything with money, but not immortality.”
As “TMZ” now reports, however, Trump did not have permission to use the audio, which is owned by the film studio Artists Equit, whose founders include Ben Affleck (50) and Matt Damon.
The studio released a statement on Twitter, saying: “We had no idea, did not consent, do not endorse or authorize the use of Air’s footage or audio during the Trump campaign for political advertising or any other purpose .”
It continues: “With particular regard to all rights available to us under United States copyright and intellectual property law, we hereby expressly notify that if any material from Air is used by the Trump campaign , for which authorization or consent is required, do not give such consent.”
It’s not the first time Trump has illicitly used artists’ work for self-promotion: For example, he antagonized the family of dead musician Tom Petty (1950-2017) by singing the song ‘I Wont’ Back Down” used for his election campaign.
