The older lady only speaks German when she absolutely has to. For example, on the witness stand at the Frankfurt Auschwitz trial, which shook the West German Republic 60 years ago. There’s Rachel Cohen, played by Iris Berben, standing in the dock, shouting at the men who were in the SS: “I want you to hear me, to see me, to smell me.”
