Huge honor for former basketball professional Dirk Nowitzki (44). As US media consistently report, the Würzburg player will be inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame. Never before has a German received this recognition. Nowitzki is one of six former professionals and coaches who will find their place in August’s list. In addition to Nowitzki, the ex-professionals Pau Gasol (42) from Spain, Tony Parker (40) from France and Dwyane Wade (41) from the USA are also honored. Coaches Gregg Popovich (74) and Becky Hammon (46) are also included.

After moving from Würzburg to the NBA, Dirk Nowitzki played for the Dallas Mavericks from 1998 to 2019 and in 2007 was the first European to win the MVP award as the most valuable player in the main round. In 2011, he also won the NBA title while also being named Finals Series MVP. Nowitzki has been nominated 14 times for the annual Best Players All-Star Game. With a total of 31,560 points, he is in sixth place on the NBA’s all-time points list and is by far the best European. Only LeBron James (38), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (75), Karl Malone (59), Kobe Bryant (1978-2020) and Michael Jordan (60) scored more points in their careers than Dirk Nowitzki.
